BAHS baseball run-rules Ponca City
By:Doug Quinn
3/13/2007
A Ponca City High School assistant coach was asked for the Wildcats' record.
He paused, smiled and politely replied, "Let's just say we're winless."
That streak continued Tuesday for PCHS.
Broken Arrow banged out 16 hits - five for extra bases - and cruised to a 14-0, Frontier Valley
Conference victory at Tiger Field.
The Tigers (5-1) had a business-like approach, which pleased coach Shannon Dobson.
"When you play teams you should beat, you have to jump on them early," Dobson said.
"We did that and didn't give them a chance to gain any confidence."
The Tigers belted Ponca City starter Chris Metcalf for 13 hits and 12 runs over the first three innings.
John Swyden led BAHS by going 4-for-4, including a triple and a double, with two RBIs and scoring
three runs.
Andy Wilkins and Derec Williams were 3-for-4.
Wilkins belted a two-run homer in the first, after a Swyden single, to set the tone.
Metcalf and Wildcat reliever Zack Cremer didn't get much help with five errors committed behind them.
The Tigers invoked the run-rule with a seven-run fourth inning by sending 11 batters to the plate.
In the frame, Lance Rymel, Kyle Henry and Williams had RBI singles.
Left-hander Brett Ziegler got the start and the victory for BAHS.
Kevin LeMoine pitched the last two innings and both had two strikeouts.
