BAHS BASEBALL: Tigers hammer Jenks

His right arm and elbow wrapped in ice,
Derek Edmisten was sore, but all smiles.

And for good reason.

The Broken Arrow High School senior
pitcher just finished his first start in almost
a year and put together a gem as the
third-ranked Tigers downed No. 5 Jenks,
9-1, at Tiger Field.

Edmisten, a transfer from Union coming off Tommy John surgery, threw six shutout innings,
surrendering just four hits and no walks.

"It felt good to go out there and do that against Jenks," Edmisten said. "My arm has its good
days and bad days. Today wasn't too bad."

The left-hander let his defense do the work, striking out only one Trojan.

"He's not a guy who is going to be overpowering," Tiger coach Shannon Dobson said. "He
throws three pitches for strikes, keeps hitters off-stride and lets his defense do the work.

"Luckily our defense played better tonight."

The Tiger offense gave Edmisten all the support he needed with three runs in the first inning
as Andy Wilkins and Justin Rackleff each had RBI singles.

BAHS erupted for four more runs in the third inning, chasing Trojan starter Ryan Rogers just
an out into the frame.

In the third alone, BAHS collected six hits, led by Spencer Barnett's two-run double.

In all, BAHS pounded out 12 hits with each Tiger in the lineup collecting at least one.

Dereck Williams, batting in the nine-hole, led the way by going 2-for-3 with 3 RBI.

"If you can get production up and down like that," Dobson said, "you give yourself a chance to
win every night."

Edmisten took care of the rest.

Only twice did Jenks runners reach second base on him. The lone time he got into trouble -
giving up a pair of singles to open the sixth inning - Edmisten pitched himself out of the jam by
forcing Matt Krawcyzyk into a double play.

Luckily for Jenks, Edmisten said he's not 100 percent yet.

"My arm strength is building back up," he said. "I'd say I'm at about 85 percent right now."

As for the ice?

"Oh, I'm just a little sore right now, but tomorrow it will really hit me."

BAHS, which snapped a two-game losing skid, hosts Muskogee at noon Saturday at Tiger Field.
