Rymel, Croft fuel Tiger victories

Lance Rymel wasn't at his best Thursday afternoon.

But, the Broken Arrow High School junior had enough.

Working through a high pitch count, Rymel muffled
Bishop Kelley with six strikeouts in a 3-1 victory in the
Wooden Bat Tournament at Tiger Field.

In a later game, BAHS sophomore Morgan Croft tossed
a four-hitter as the Tigers run-ruled Berryhill, 9-1, to
push their record to 19-6.

The Tigers are scheduled to play Muskogee at 5:30 p.m.
Friday in a round-robin game.

Rymel endured 136 pitches in his seven inning game to
raise his record to 6-0.

"That number is up there, for anybody," Rymel said of
his pitch count. "I was getting people out but I was going
too deep in the count. I need to focus more on just
throwing strikes instead of placing the ball."

Kelley (17-7) went in order only once against Rymel and
left 10 base runners stranded, including the bases loaded
in the fourth inning without scoring.

Kelley's Joe Richards held the Tigers to five hits but three Comet errors allowed two unearned
runs.

The Comet defense saved Richards with three double plays.

Broken Arrow's only RBI was a single by Rymel that scored John Swyden, who had singled, in
the fifth for a 3-1 lead.

Nathan Pettus scored the Tigers' first run when BAHS executed a double steal in the second.

The Tigers made it 2-0 in the third when Marcus Terry scored on a passed ball.

In a six-inning game, John Swyden, Ky Burgess, Lance Rymel and Justin Rackleff each had
two hits.

Swyden had three RBIs and Andy Wilkins belted a solo homer for the Tigers as Morgan Croft
went the distance.

Croft (2-0) walked only one and struckout five.

"Morgan did a good job keeping the ball down," BAHS?coach Shannon Dobson said.

Wilkins' eighth homer of the season opened the third inning and chased Berryhill starter and
loser Brian Crain.

The Tigers forced the run-rule with an five-run sixth inning by sending 10 batters to the plate.

Swyden delivered a bases loaded triple while Burgess and Cale Replogle had RBI singles.

Game Notes

* Kelley's nine-hole hitter Tom Kelley was 3-for-3 against BAHS's Lance Rymel and scored the
Comets' only run.

* Rymel walked three and hit a batter.

* Perhaps the biggest hit was BAHS rightfielder Cale Replogle crashing into the right field wall
in the seventh inning.

* Kelley starter Joe Richardson walked four and fanned two.

* Against Berryhill, seven different Tigers had hits.

* Berryhill starter Brian Crain was charged with four runs but only two were earned.

* On the day, BAHS hit into five double plays.
