Missed chances haunt Tigers, 4-1

Broken Arrow High School, no doubt, had its chances to knock off No. 1 Owasso Friday night.

But, BAHS did cash its chips and the Rams vacated Tiger Field with a 4-1 triumph.

This was Owasso's second victory in three days over the Tigers, now 20-8.

"We didn't take advantage of those opportunities," Dobson said. "It's frustrating right now."

To illustrate Dobson's point:

* BAHS pitcher Nathan Pettus gave up "just three stinking hits the whole game," he said.

* The Tigers stranded nine base runners, six of those in scoring position.

* BAHS had runners at second and third with one out in the third and didn't score.

* Broken Arrow didn't score in the fourth after Pettus led off with a double.

* The Tigers' lone run came in the fifth after having the bases loaded and one out.

* A Tiger error opened the gate for two unearned runs in the second inning and the Rams
never trailed.

"I don't know how many we left on base," Dobson said. "But it was a lot.
"We weren't aggressive at the plate. Against good teams, you've got to have that mindset or
you're not going to win very many times."

Owasso lefthander Matt Hoffman checked the Tigers on two hits with 11 strike outs and two
walks.

After the Tigers squandered the bases loaded chance in the fifth, Owasso made BAHS pay.

In the sixth, designated hitter Jarrod Huneryager belted a two-run homer for the three-run
cushion.

A leadoff single by Hoffman had been only the second hit surrendered by Pettus.

Pettus accounted for the Tigers' lone tally with a sacrifice fly to score Marcus Terry, who had
reached on an error.

Game Notes

* BAHS plays Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at Sand Springs.

* In going the distance, Nate Pettus struck out two, walked four and hit a batter.

* Matt Hoffman's 11-strikeout performance included two walks, a wild pitch and four hit batsmen.

* Broken Arrow's first four batters - Marcus Terry, John Swyden, Andy Wilkins and Ky Burgess -
were 0-for-14 with seven strikeouts.

* Two nights earlier, the two teams combined for 28 hits in a 14-8 Owasso victory in Owasso.

* At Owasso, the Tigers stranded 12 runners, seven in scoring position.
