BAHS unleashes its fury; Wilkins homers again
Broken Arrow High School unleashed it offensive fury against Muskogee Friday afternoon.
A 15-run fourth inning buried the Roughers, 21-5, and propelled BAHS to its 23rd victory in a
non-conference road game.
The Tigers close out the regular season Saturday at 7 p.m. at Union before hosting a Class 6A
regional Tuesday.
BAHS sent 20 batters to the plate in the marathon fourth and scored its runs on nine hits without
a Muskogee error.
Andy Wilkins continued to terrorize opposing pitchers with a grand slam in that mix.
It was the senior's third homer in less than 24 hours and his 12th for the season.
On Thursday, Wilkins homered twice to rally the Tigers to a 10-6 victory at Bartlesville.
What a difference a day made for Muskogee, which lost 1-0 in the seventh inning at Jenks.
Almost forgotten was Muskogee had a 5-3 lead after third innings.
By the way BAHS started the fourth - a runner thrown out trying to steal - gave no hint of what
was to happen.
With runners at first and second and two outs, everything came unraveled for the Roughers.
"That was pretty amazing," BAHS assistant Jimmy Ashley said. "All of a sudden, hitting became
contagious and our hits were dinkers. Our kids were hitting the ball really hard."
A quick look:
* Marcus Terry had two hits, two RBIs and a stolen base.
* Nathan Pettus had a single, a double and two RBIs.
* Lance Rymel walked three times.
* Spencer Barnett had a single and a two-run double.
"It got to where nobody wanted to make two outs in the same inning," Ashley said.
The Tigers' explosion brought back a not-so-pleasant memory for Ashley.
When he played at Northwestern State in the late 1990s, Eastern New Mexico scored 17 runs in
the first inning against the Rangers.
"This," Ashley said, "was a lot more fun."
